Attach prefix to artifact ID in DNG

Vani B (1391065) | asked Apr 08 '21, 12:16 p.m.

Currently in DOORS NG, the artifact ID is an integer number, which is globally unique. In legacy DOORS 9.X, the object ID usually has a prefix, e.g., ASCU-EICD-5257.  Whether it is feasible the prefix can be attached automatically in DOORS NG.  Generally they will filter or check the prefix to get the all the requirement tag in the design, SDD etc.

Hello,

In DNG ID attribute is system defined and you cannot do anything with this. Workaround is to use custom attribute with old ID from DOORS, but there is no default possibility to automatically generate the value of custom attribute, so the user(s) must manually type the ID into the attribute value.

If you are interested, we developed a DNG extension for generating custom ID attribute:
Custom Artifact ID in DOORS Next Generation (softacus.com)

Kind Regards

We use the artifact type as the prefix and just show the Artifact Type and ID columns next to each other in Views and when generating reports we combine the prefix and id together,

Our projects migrated from RequisitePro where the prefix was based on the requirement type so this was a natural migration.
