What would be the fate of existing Work Item Type if I remove that type from CLM?

If I remove work Item Type A from the list of Work Item types of CLM, what will happen to the existing work items which were created as a type of A. If they still alive in CLM, would it be possible to modify them or convert them to another type?

Is it possible to recover that removed work item type or have to recreate it?

Thanks

 Hi,

yes, they still exist. Yes, you can retrieve and change type to a valid type. It is a rather simple solution: create a work item query to show you all work items with type NOT equal to ANY of the existing types and voilà: you get the culprits in a nice, orderly result that.

The work items will exist, but their "type" will display as the internal identifier that the type used to have.

The system automatically keeps a record of all previous states of the Process Guidance XML, so you can retrieve the information about the old type (but short of reverting the project area to that earlier XML version, you would have to manually recreate the old type, based on the information in the earlier XML version.
