Is there any way for us to modify the Section attribute to display with a different numbering convention? Just a note, this question has been asked before, with no responses: 


As it stands, the current format looks something like this:

ID, Section, Primary Text, Artifact Type
1, 1, Requirement Heading, Header
2, 1.0-1, Requirement A, Requirement
3, 1.0-2, Requirement B, Requirement
4, 1.0-2.0-1, Requirement B+, Requirement

The Section attribute very quickly gets too long and will take up quite a deal of the page if expanded to its fullest. If you have other attributes you are looking to see while reviewing your module, you will likely have to remove the attribute entirely (forcing you to eyeball the structure) or zoom out making you strain your eyes to see the requirements. 

Is there any way we can change the WBS numbering to be something more sparse, like this:

ID, Section, Primary Text, Artifact Type
1, 1, Requirement Heading, Header
2, 1.1, Requirement A, Requirement
3, 1.2, Requirement B, Requirement
4, 1.2.1, Requirement B+, Requirement

This is change embraces the hierarchical structure while removing excess "0-", 2 characters per level after level 2.  

If there are any existing tickets that you are aware of, please let me know. Also, if this issue has been resolved in a later release please let me know as I am currently on DNG v6.0.2iFix15.

The section 'numbering' is that way by design. The 0- in the section indicates a non-heading artifact and the following number is the sequence of the artifact within the section preceding the 0-. 

E.g.: in your first block the artifact with ID=2 is 1 hierarchy level below artifact 1 (meaning 1 is parent of 2) AND 2 is not a heading. Artifact 3 is at the same level as 2 and also has 1 as parent. Artifact 4 is 1 hierarchy level deeper than 3 and has 3 as its parent. The only way you would get the numbering scheme you wish for is to make all those artifacts heading types but then that would probably bring you new problems.

If you have a hierarchy you don't have to display the section number. Headings automatically get chapter numbers which are the same as the section number and non-heading artifacts will be indented and also displayed with expand/collapse arrow icon at the parent artifact.

Thanks Adrian for explaining the reasoning to me. Sometimes what seems obvious to a user may not work the best in practice.


Do you know if there's any way for us to change the indentation displayed on the site? As you can likely guess, users feel that the current indentation scheme isn't as clear as they are familiar with.

Did you use 'Contents' instead of 'Primary Text' in the view to display indentation?
