First state after initializing: select between several states possible?

When I save a work item for the first time I would like to have the option to choose from different states that I want to start at instead of having to save the item twice (so first to initialize and then to change the state)

Is there any way that I can achieve that?

This is not possible as far as I can tell. The initial transition is executed automatically and can only have one target..
