Sabrina Moody (132) | asked Feb 14 '18, 9:34 a.m.

Is it possible that a user story can calculate the total time spent from all tasks under that story?

There is support for this out of the box in the planning component provided the Story and the children are in the same project area.

The user story and children are in the same project area; but users are wanting the user story to calculate total time spent by the tasks(children) automatically.  Right now, we have to figure time spent manually by adding all the time spent in each task and putting in user story.

How would we go about setting this up in RTC to handle this way?

There is nothing to configure. This is out of the box as far as I can tell. If you use one of the agile templates (probably even otherwise) There is a roll-up mechanism implemented that looks at the estimate, time spent/remaining, correction in execution items and rolls the data up to the plan items such as Stories and Epics..

Work Items have not attribute based Progress presentation that show rolled up story points and hours in the work item. The same data can be seen in hierarchical plan views.

Here the plan

Here the work item editor presentation

In the example 0/96 hours is due to no work being done in any of the child work items.

We don't have progress on our User Story; we have time spent.

Then someone likely accidentally unchecked the Story in the Plan Work Item Categorization.
