Best way to find a work item in a plan?

Vicky Pagnaer (63129) | asked Sep 18 '17, 8:56 a.m.

Hi,

In our plans, we cannot use the default provided "filter" input box, because this only checks the Summary. I tried browser find (Ctrl + F) but this gets very weird results, sometimes it finds all occurrences of text on a plan, sometimes only those items assigned to the first team member...

Is there any way to search the plan for any text, not just Summary, that works consistently?

Sample use cases: we've planned a lot of work for an iteration and we forgot the name of the work item, but we know it has a specific tag or category (custom field) that we can search on, without having to scroll through the plan.

Vicky,

searching for work items can be done via
- work item queries : Creating queries
- quick search : Getting the most out of full text search and Quick Query Syntax
- searching in classical plan objects really is by exclude filter and then the "type to filter" only seems to apply to Summary. This is why I tend to rely more and more on:
- e.g. Quick Planner Next (augmenting / replacing the current plan capability for many use cases): Quick Planner Next Blog Entry
