Upgrading from RTC 2.0 to 2.0.0.1

Jan Van de Poel (2413216) | asked Sep 22 '09, 1:23 p.m.
What is the upgrade scenario for a corporate environment ?
A. all clients, then the server
B. the server first, then all clients

It is difficult to require that all clients be upgraded at the same time. This is even more difficult for a home made bundle of plugins + RTC in eclipse.

Are 2.0.0.1 clients compatible with a 2.0 server ? Or is it the opposite ?

2.0.0.1 clients are compatible with 2.0 servers and vice versa.

Since a 2.0.0.1 client may require server side support for any new features, I recommend upgrading the server first. But since 2.0.0.1 is backwards compatible with 2.0, clients don't need to all be upgraded at once; this can be done as needed.

One thing to note is that while what Nick says is true for Eclipse clients it is not true for the Client for Visual Studio. Only 2.0.0.1 RTC VS clients work with a 2.0.0.1 server. The download pages have been updated to make this all clearer:
