Data backups needed for RTC and RQM

Hello All,

One of our customers have decided to close down the project which is running Rational Team Concert and Rational Quality Manager.
They now need the data dump from both RTC and RQM and they wish to know what data in RTC and RQM are to be backed up and how to do that.
We are the administrators of the server and we either need to guide them or take the data back ups and give it to them.
As how we see in Rational ClearCase, where we take the .vbs backup, do we similarly have something like that in RTC and RQM. OR should we do exporting of RTC and test artifacts into excel, etc.
They say, for example, if a test case has an attachment, they even need the attachment to be backed up. So that is the kind of data dump they are looking at

Please guide me.

Thanks
Venkatesh Prasad

RTC Backup Implementation : Pin out - The full pin out of the products is shown in the Hardware User Guides. The RTC backup pin is described in the next chapters including also its electrical characteristics.

The first solution for the RTC backup is adding a capacitor to the VRTC pin. In case of the CDMA/EVDO product as CE910 and DE910 family, VRTC also supplies reference power to check the time interval from Sudden Momentary Power Loss. So, a 6.8uF keep alive capacitor instead on the VRTC port of CE910/DE910 is recommended.
Calculating Backup Capacitor: In order to define the backup capacitor value for the RTC, knowing the time, we have to consider the following parameters: • VRTC – The Starting voltage of the capacitor (Volt) • VRTCMIN – The minimum voltage acceptable for the RTC circuit. (Volt) • IRev (Ampere) – The current consumption of the RTC circuitry when VBATT = 0 • BTime - Backup Time (Hours).

You can start with this deployment wiki.

If I understand correctly, you actually need a "migration" plan. You cannot import those backups directly into a third party tool. I believe you need a working CLM environment for the migration.

Hello Donald,

Thank you very much for answering the question.
I just wanted to ask you if there are any ways where the artifacts can be downloaded directly...
For example, in RQM, can we download directly all the test cases, test scripts and links that it has, along with any file attachments to these artifacts..
Our customer is closing down their project and hence they are not migrating to any other clm or any other servers at the moment.
They just wish to keep this data dump for future reference..
In case, if they wish to restart the business in the future, they will anyways have this data dump and they can just use some import utility and recreate all these data on their new server.. So, that is the intent and that is the requirement..
Could you suggest on this please

The database backup is the only reliable way to preserve all the data. If you use other method to "dump" the data, there is no guarantee that you can get it completely.
