Restricting use of Links between certain Work Item types

Uffe Aller (111) | asked May 30 '16, 9:27 a.m.
Hi

In our project, we would like to restrict the usage of some link types, in order to enforce out Work Item hierarchy.
I.e. an Epic can not be a child of a Task, and a Story can not be a Parent of an Epic.

So far I haven't been able to find any standard functionality i Rational Team Concert that supports out requirement.
Does anyone know whether such functionality exists? Or have an idea of how we may implement it?

Regards

There is nothing built in. You would have to create a pre-condition or advisor (at least this is the only option I am aware of). Please note, that some of the links (for example Tracks) don't trigger the operation behavior, so this solution won't work for these types. It works for the other link types however. To get started, follow https://rsjazz.wordpress.com/2015/09/30/learning-to-fly-getting-started-with-the-rtc-java-apis/ and the enclosed workshop. The workshop creates a follow up action, but most of the mechanics is the same for pre-conditions. The blog has multiple examples: https://rsjazz.wordpress.com/?s=advisor

Some questions in the forum mentioned problems to get the references in the old state. I am not sure this is an issue.
