 I have looked through countless online blogs and help. However I still cannot figure out how to simply grab a customer attribute's value?

It has to be straight forward, But I have still not figured it out.

Are you referring to custom attributes in general, or any particular ones? There are some success stories out there.

I guess our schema already have supplied the attribute(dataSource/artifact/collaboration/attributes/objectType/customAttribute). You can drop into your RPE template. Please refer to attachment which may help you.
