 How to hide/unhide attributes using javascript attribute customization...Is it possible?

For each presentation in the work item editor, there are options such as "Hide if Empty", "Hide on Creation" and etc. These options are applied when the work item is loaded. If you are talking about show/hide an attribute presentation dynamically, say when you click on a check box, then this is not possible.

far as I know there is no mechanism to do this.

I think all the data is using a common set of CSS style sheet info, so you couldn't get to a specific attribute.
