Ask a question

Should we advise customers to move from Clearcase to RTC?

Hi,

Our customers have to consolidate many Clearcase instances and move to either Clearcase or RTC. We have to advise which one they should choose.
Out of the many factors, one factor which we are considering is what is the future of Clearcase. Is it going to stop in near future?

Can someone tell me if Clearcase will be continued (for long) or it will be stopped.

Also, if we suggest RTC, what are the pros and cons for it?

Hi Suchita,
ClearCase still offers new features. For instance, see the "Automatic Views" (a brand new view type) that have been recently released: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21699087

Far as I know, ClearCase is not going to stop in near future. Have a look on the answer given by Howie Bernstein: http://bit.ly/1NyQ2A0

 Hi Suchita,

I would think that Clearcase and RTC has its on purpose for catering the Developer SCM requirements, but still the same basics and different usage patterns.

There's no simple answer I would say CC and RTC has different approach to scale to large deployment, and CC has longer history of supporting large deployments successfully.

RTC  (it can be used for both Change & Configuration Management ) is more about agile and collaborative application with different combination of components built in as a solution (Collaborative life-cycle Management).

eg: RTC administration, Managing servers\users, Managing SCM artifacts are more easier.
