Java APIs versus REST APIs

Jose Miguel Ordax Cassa (2.4k3126100) | asked Jul 11 '09, 5:01 a.m.
Hi, reading the introduction to RTC SDK at:
https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Main/RtcSdk20 I can see: "As started in
the release plan, the Jazz platform is evolving and we are moving
towards REST APIs but the transition will be incremental. As a result,
the Java APIs are still available in RTC 2.0 and haven't changed much
since 1.0."

Does this mean that Java APIs will be deprecated or disappear in 3.0? Or
the product will maintain both families of APIs?

Thanks in advance,

Chemi.

I know of no plans to deprecate or eliminate the current RTC Java APIs in future releases - there are too many products/customers currently dependent on these APIs.

The statement in the documentation you reference is a notice of intent that future API development planned, esp. in the area of public, external API, will be in the form of language-agnostic REST APIs. E.G. the JIA implementation of OSLC is being spec'd and developed along these lines.
