Can I use Squid Proxy to create work items?

Hi,

I´m using here a squid proxy in order to fasten SCM access. One of the rules with RTC is "use a stable URL".

In our configuration everybody is using "https://jazz.blablabla.com" for the Web UI. Within eclipse we are using "https://jazz.city.blablabla.com" in order to use the squid proxy. As far as I understood that´s OK when you share source code with RTC. But within this scenario is it also allowed to create workitems from eclipse with this "URL"?

Best regards

Alexander

As far as I understand the mechanism, Eclipse redirects the calls to the proxy "https://jazz.city.blablabla.com", but the URL's used are all "https://jazz.blablabla.com". You should not see the proxy URL's in the URL's you use. And as far as I know even the repository connection used in the RTC Eclipse client should use "https://jazz.blablabla.com". The proxy should pretty much transparent to you.

Hi,

This would be the case if you use "Forward Proxy" configuration within eclipse. Due to internal network configurations this is not possible. So we use "https://jazz.city.blablabla.com" for the repository connection. From my point of view this is not OK because in that case you are not allowed to create workitems or plans from within eclipse because of the "bad" public URL.

Best Regards
Alexander

I can not comment on your internal network configurations. I can only state how I think this is supposed to work.

Hi,

That´s clear for me. But can we agree that we always should use "https://jazz.blablabla.com" in order to connect to the jazz team server.

Hi Alexander, yes, you should always use the respective public URI to connect to the Jazz servers. In your case the public URI root for the servers seems to be "https://jazz.blablabla.com" and that should be used.

Just for information, we have looked into being able to connect using different addresses (e.g. a different one from outside of the company) and it is just not going to work. There is also not a feasible way to parse the communication in order to translate automatically. Hence we suggest to use a VPN solution in these cases to be able to always use the public URI.
