Do you want to say "Iteration", right? Not Timeline. Workitems are planned for Iterations, and Timelines have a set of Iterations.

A work item only appers on plan if it "Category" and "Planned for" fields are filled with the same team and iteration on plan.

Remember, categories are associated with teams on a one-to-one relationship.

To be precise, a given category is associated with a single team for a given timeline (i.e., a given category can be assigned to a different team in different timelines).

You must ensure that the current sprint (an iteration) is set to 'current sprint'. In Manage this Project Area > Timelines > Defined Timelines, scroll down and highlight the sprint of interest.

On the Defined Timelines bar, on the right there is a small blue arrow by green/ yellow squares. If you hover over it, it will say 'Set Selected Iteration as Current' click this and the a small blue arrow should appear by your sprint of interest. This is now the current sprint and therefore all assigned work items can be seen in the sprint plan. Save your changes!

Make sure in the 'Edit Properties' of the Timelines, your current sprint- iteration has a tick against 'A release is scheduled for this iteration' in the edit box. Otherwise you will not be able to assign work items to the current sprint.

This is for release 4.0.6.
