Advice on working with incompatible Eclipse IDEs?
Enterprise rollout, so there is lots of different IDEs and various stages of modern.
For RTC4.x server it looks like Eclipse 3.5 (RTC3), 3.6, and 4.2 (RTC4) based IDEs have a good chance for being straight plug-and-play. Although there are articles about tuning-up a (slightly) incompatible eclipse clients with various modules and updates, we don't want to get into that business of crafting one-off support.
What is the advice on working with an incompatible Eclipse IDE? It doesn't look like sharing the local sandbox with an RTC client will work (shows it as currently in use.) Perhaps for Win 7 clients, the Windows Explorer interface will work, but presumably some are using Linux as well. Other ideas?

If you can't help it, in the past what we have done is to import the projects under SCM (without copying) into another Eclipse workspace of an incompatible version (or the other way around). this way you can switch to the RTC Eclipse for the operations you can only do there. Not pretty, but probably workable.
I am not sure if using the Shell integration would work or not or if it provides any benefits. |
