M3 Work Items default view

Dave Draeger (4172) | asked Oct 15 '07, 12:59 p.m.
Looks like the work items changed in M3 and I can't find a way to set the
default view of work item query results. In previous milestones there was a
menu option/preference to set the default sorting on the columns. I don't
see that in M3... nor do I see it in the Window->Preferences options...

Is there a new way to define what columns to sort on by default?

It looks like in the M3 Work Items query editor, you can now define the sort
order for that query. Is this the only way to define it or is there a user
preference that can override this, so even if the query wants to sort by
date, a user could override and sort by Priority if they choose? Or is the
recommended method to just duplicate the query you want and set your own
sort options for the duplicated query?

The Result layout page of the query editor allows you to define a
specific column layout for the query, but if nothing is defined there,
the default layout is taken.

This default layout is not managed by the views dialog anymore, but by
the work item explorer itself. You can add, remove and reorder columns
right there and this layout will be applied to all queries that do not
define their custom layout.

You can always click on one of the column headers to reorder the results
as you need them. This order will be preserved when you refresh the results.

Patrick
