Unable to list the history of a folder in SCM

Adil Chahid (45524118) | asked Apr 09 '09, 10:13 a.m.
Hi all,
Unlike Rational ClearCase Tree Browser, we're unable to browse the history of the changes applied to a folder artifact.
Is it something that is planned to be implemented somehow down the road?
Thanks,

Also note that in Jazz SCM, the way to find a deleted file is to use the
Search > Jazz_Source_Control > Change_Sets... operation. On the
resulting page, you can indicate that you want to look for deletions,
and specify the beginning of the file name of the file you are looking
for. Once you find the change-set, open it in the Change Explorer. If
the folder that contained the file still is visible, you can just use
the Load operation to bring the file back. Once workitem 78084 is
completed, you'll be able to bring it back, even if the folder that
contained it no longer is visible.

Cheers,
Geoff

But I agree restoring an individual deleted file is something that
should be supported ... I've filed workitem 78084 for it.

Hi,
with Rational ClearCase we were able to list the history of a folder
by knowing what elements (files or other folders) where added or
substracted for each version of the folder.
We could also roll back to a specific version in order to recover
deleted files.

It seems that in RTC we have to rollback the change set containing a
file or folder deletion in order to bring back to life the deleted
artifact(s).

It can be a real pain if the rest of the changed artifacts contained
in that change set were actually required.
By being able to browse the history of a folder it would be much more
easy to recover some missing artifacts without actually playing
around with the content of the change set containig the deletion of
those artifacts.
We' d actually just create a new change set pointing on the restore of
the missing files or folders.

Should we open a new requirement of enhancement in Jazz.net or you'll
finish eventually to deal with the previously flagged enchamcement?

Thanks,

Hi Geoff, thanks for the tip.
The enhancement will benefit the recovery of deleted files process.
Thank you for your time,

Were you interested in a ClearCase style "show me the history of the
immediate of this folder", or "show me the history of changes to any
file/folder in the tree rooted at this folder" (there is an old workitem
for the latter functionality, (37819).

Cheers,
Geoff
