Process Templates vs. Process Sharing, same things shared?

Martin Muellenberg (7259) | asked Mar 17 '14, 7:48 a.m.
Hi forum,

Process configurations can be shared using
  • process templates (as exported/imported via zip-file, applied during project area creation) or
  • process sharing (by linking one project area to another project area, so the process configuration is inherited).
My question does not aim different sharing scenarios, such as process sharing allows you to have one master project area which can be extended so the client project areas inherit new configurations dynamically, whereas this is not possible with process templates.

The question is, are the same things shared? So I need an answer like for example the imaginary
  • No, custom attributes are only shared when using process templates but not when using process sharing.
  • Yes, the same things are shared for both.
Kind regards and thanks

Hi Martin,
According to https://jazz.net/library/article/1005 workitem types and attributes are inherited using process sharing.
Let us know if it is exactly answer on your question.

Hello Krzysztof,

Thanks for your feedback. There are much more things that can be shared. So far I have found (https://jazz.net/forum/questions/140610/what-is-contained-in-rtc-project-template):

What is saved:
- Workflow
- Work item types
- Custom attributes
- Calculated values with scripts
- Process roles
- Plan view customizations
- Preconditions and follow-up actions
Basically everything that can be set up in "Process Configuration" tab.

What is not saved
- Categories
- Team Areas
- Iterations / releases
- SCM content (streams, repository workspaces)
- work item queries
So my question is: Is the above true for Process Templates as well as for Process Sharing? And is this list correct and complete?

Kind regards and thanks
Martin Muellenberg
