built-in "Start Date" attribute - what does it do?

Dave Evans (14812646) | asked Nov 15 '13, 2:17 p.m.

Hi,

There is a built-in attribute in all work items of my Project Area which I do not see being used (either that or queries are broken). I am wondering if there is any built-in functionality I should be seeing for the "Start Date" attribute, or if it is populated in some obvious way I am missing.

The "Resolution Date" is being populated in my PA whenever a work item is resolved, the date is written. Should something like this be happening for my "Start Date" attribute?

If there is no built-in usage of the attribute I would like to populate it with a calculated value (If status="Assigned" and "Start Date" is blank, stick todays date in there.

Thanks!

Hi Dave,

This forum post (https://jazz.net/forum/questions/22353/start-date-of-a-work-item) states: The Start Date attribute is independent of the state change "New -> In Progress". It's meant as a hint on when to start working on that item.

I found a forum post with a sample script for automatically setting a custom start date attribute: https://jazz.net/forum/questions/102161/assign-actual-start-date-value-systematically
