Can I have a dashboard that provides an aggregated view of 2 project areas having same workitem type and workflow in RTC?

when you speak about same workflow and same work item type across these projects, if you intend to have only ONE viewlet showing ALL these work items, i guess you are actually looking for a query which could fetch work items from multiple project areas.  Once you have such a query, you can just add any work item statistics viewlet and set it up with that query...

If this is the case, you have hit an enhancement request :
Support work item queries across project areas (94575)

Looking at it from the other side, if you wanted to use multiple queries for the same dashboard viewlet, I am afraid you have again hit a enhancement :
Combine 2 or more queries from different project areas in different repositories into one viewlet (100689)

But reports could be a good alternative and are discussed in :

hope this helps.

Yes the need is somewhat same.

For instance : I have project A & B and defects logged in both these project areas.

Now my manager wants to see the overall view of his engagement which has these 2 projects. He wants to know the Total list of defects, break up as per priority, modules etc.

Can i have 1 widget consolidating these 2 projects?

ok, then you could follow either or both the discussions :
Support work item queries across project areas (94575)
Combine 2 or more queries from different project areas in different repositories into one viewlet (100689)

you can add your comments as well if you see its different

once you have a report with the required data set, you can run it through a dashboard widget.  One widget would then cover multiple projects...
and like mentioned by Krzysztof above, BIRT is a good solution you can explore.
Some useful link to get started is:

Once you have the report created, you can use a single widget to display the report.

hi Prandya,
If you want to see the data from 2 project areas in one dashboard, you need to create a report using BIRT or RRDI/Insight. These frameworks allows combining the data from different project areas.

Anyway what kind of data exactly you want display?

You can configure the widgets in the same dashboard to fetch the data from different project areas.
So in a single dashboard tab there could be 2 work item statistics widgets fetching data from 2 different project areas.

This Help topic shows how configure a dashboard with widgets from 2 or more project areas:
