RTC Planning with no tasks

We have a group that has been using RTC for a pilot project. We have found they are creating Epics, Stories, and Defects....but no Tasks. (They have not looked yet at the Planning feature.) What are some features this team will miss when using planning or OOTB reporting/dashboards if they continue to work without the Task (estimate hours, etc) work item type? |

The basic unit of work is the task. Epic and Story work items group this work. So Epic or Story work items without tasks are potentials sitting on the shelf. Epic and Story work items track Progress which is the ratio of resolved work over total work.
A defect is in many ways similar to a task. Defects and tasks can have similar attributes.

But the semantics are very different. A task represents planned work. Defects document unplanned deficiencies in the delivered work. If all your work is represented as defects then forget planning, you are playing Whac-A-Mole.
Load Bars show how much work is assigned to a user and whether she or he is likely to complete her or his assigned work or not.

The main thing they will miss is the ability to determine whether a given individual or team are overloaded (or underloaded) for a given iteration.
