When you create a work item, you can type in user names (@kesterto for example) and also mention work items (eg: task #234).  I have been trying to find a definitive list of the text you can type in that gets automatically parsed and resolved to a work item or user link.

Does anyone know where to find this?

many thanks

A user link is always preceded by an "@" ("at sign").
A work item link is always preceded by one of the declared "aliases" of a work item type.
For details on work item links, see section 5 of:

Probably, this is a good location about link detection.

In addition to Geoffrey suggest, there is a link detection of "attachment", "comment".
