Mixing wired and wireless

Kevin Conway (4368) | asked Apr 30 '13, 10:15 a.m.
 Hello all:

Some of our developers are using laptops with both wired and wireless connections.  These connections obtain different ips, use different subnets, and have different dns server ordering.  The developers will go to meetings working wirelessly and then drop the laptops into their docks where the ip is changed as the wireless connection is replaced by the wired connection.

I have also noticed that the BSSID changes and on occasion at the edge of the building, the connection can be dropped altogether.

At the same time there are complaints that RTC gets confused as to what records are in pending edit, and there are reports that they get messages that some properties can not be read or other "red" error messages appear.  We can not reproduce these errors on a wired connection.

  Our suspicions are:

Sessionids are invalidated on the change of IP address causing the operations to fail.
Wireless dropouts are affecting the ability to complete operations.

Anyone have any comments?

  Thanks.

Kevin

Hi Kevin, your assumptions are correct. Moving from wired to wireless will require the user to re-connect and most likely re-authenticate. Failing to do so will cause a variety of error messages.
