Possible to have somebody participate in a workitem?

Xue Xiang Cui (711137) | asked Nov 25 '08, 12:28 p.m.
Based on the current desgin, a workitem only can be assigned to one person, but sometimes, there will be more than one person working on a workitem, or I hope to have somebody participate in or give some advice. So is it possible to add somebody as participant or have somebody subscribe this workitem rather than sending him/her a mail to ask to subscribe this workitem. Thanks.

Today you have at least three alternatives:
- simplest is to just add that person as a subscriber (you don't have to
send them email ... you can just add them yourself).
- next easiest is to add the other person as the owner of an "approval"
on that workitem. This has the benefit that the other person can mark
when they are "done" with their part (and you can specify a date by
which you want them to be done).
- and if neither of the above is sufficient, just create a child
workitem for that other person.

For anyone that wants to "just allow multiple owners", you would need to
define how agile planning would deal with multiple owners (i.e. who gets
the workload, how do you know who has done their part, etc.)

Cheers,
Geoff

Thanks for the response, for the 1st way how to add that person as a subscriber? I can do that only if I am the creator of the workitem? Thanks.

For the 2nd way, what's the meaning of "the owner of an approval"? Thanks.

That depends on the process defined for the team area that the workitem
is assigned to. I frequently add subscribers to workitems that I have
not created.
