What are some RTC 3.0.1.1 Customization and Performance Considerations?

Hello,

I am creating a custom work item in RTC 3.0.1.1 that has many attributes.  I'm talking 400+.  What are the performance implications of this mammoth work item?  Is it generally not recommended to have something like this or are there minimum hardware requirements that would support the task?  Does RTC not guarantee performance after a certain number of attributes?

Any links or input would be great.

Thanks!

Andrew

I'm not aware of any performance issues (which doesn't mean there aren't any :-), but I am concerned about usability.   Is it reasonable to expect a human to fill out (or read) 400 attributes?   Or are these machine-generated/maintained attributes?

 Hello Geoffrey,

Thank you for your reply.  The work item will be used at various levels by various actors.  Not all attributes will be used for each item, but they need to be available.  Some of the attributes will be scripted as well.

The usability aspect has already been addressed.  My biggest concern is with performance, such as slow loading times, etc.  Would it be logical to assume that at least two servers are required (1 DB, 1 App) to manage this configuration?

Is there any documentation that describes performance limitations?

Regards,

Andrew

Andrew, this help topic contains general performance considerations, with links to other useful information.

Here's the link to the CLM 4.0 Sizing guide, which covers performance in more detail.  There are a number of considerations about artifact size (though nothing about number of attributes).

Hello Andrew

Before you go down that path of creating a workitem type with 400+ attributes, please read this guidance on the infocenter link below. I would want to alert  you on this.

Attention: Each work item type can support up to 100 custom attributes.

A point to note is that this is not an enforced limitation in RTC. But this can increase the risk of process template corruption. I received this feedback from the Rational Support when my project area got corrupt.

http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/clmhelp/v4r0m1/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.jazz.install.doc/topics/t_max_perf.html

Also there is a limit on the number of custom attributes that can be added to a project area's process template. That figure is 500. Refer to comment #7 on this this Jazz.net WI that talks of that:

Good Luck!!

Regards
Vinay
