How to Ignore work item history updates when changing an attribute ?

Hi,

I am using a custom attribute in a workitem to dipaly a message depending on workflow state. These messages are updated using a java script.

I donnt want to capture the changes of this attribute under my workitem history. How can i ignore these changes.
