It's not possible to permanently delete project areas at the moment, however there is an (unplanned) work item for adding this functionality.

You can archive 'Project Areas'.
Go to 'Manage Project Areas' and highlight the desired project area.
On the extreme right, you will see an option to 'Archive Project Area':
Hope this helps!!

Thanks for your response Rajat. We are aware of this option since this option has been there in RTC 2.0 as well. Actually, we are looking to delete old PAs that are not used anymore to save the memory. Since we can delete workitems in RTC 3.0, I was wondering if we can delete PAs as well.

There is already a related work item  [JAF] Enable Project Delete, which tracks this feature request. Please do not hesitate to add your comments to it as you find appropriate.
