Jazz Source Code Control - performance?

Mike Johnson (28624221) | asked Nov 11 '08, 4:05 p.m.
I've searched through jazz.net for any info on performance characteristics of Jazz source code control, but can't seem to find anything. Is there any document that compares/contrasts Jazz SC vs. other SCMs like Subversion, ClearCase, etc?

Thanks in advance,
Mike Johnson

We haven't published anything... of course as you would expect we've done our own comparisons and encourage people to try it out and compare against their existing tooling. It shouldn't disappoint.

The DB affects the overall SCM performance, the default Derby install is the slowest, while the other commercial databases (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server) are a lot better for running benchmarks. So keep this in mind.

Thanks! I think one of the issues with ClearCase versus a system like Subversion is that CC doesn't seem to be designed with a WAN in mind. (I know of CCRC, but even the performance of that isn't the greatest when compared to Subversion, CVS, etc.)

Would you say that Jazz source control has been designed with WAN scenarios in mind?

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, Jazz SCM was explicitly designed for WAN use.
In particular, we periodically do performance testing on high-latency
networks.

Mike, please read the following to see how serious we are about WAN performance.
