This file contains information about the DXL Encryption Tool
It is divided into the following sections:
For the latest news and information
on DOORS, visit the Telelogic website at http://support.telelogic.com/doors.
Important information
- The DXL Encryption tool is for DOORS 8.x on Windows platforms
- Use the DXL Encryption Tool to encrypt DXL files you have written. The tool
can be used to encrypt DOORS 8.0 or 8.1 DXL files. The tool is a one way encryption
tool, and does not decrypt files. Customers are advised to keep the original
DXL that they encrypt in a safe place.
- Files that have been encrypted by the tool are decrypted by the DOORS client,
which can run any DXL files that have been encrypted by the tool. Encrypted
DXL cannot be loaded and run from the DXL Interaction window, it must be
#included.
- It is not possible to execute encrypted DXL from a menu item. If this is
required, a wrapping un-encrypted DXL file must be used.
- The encryption tool is not unicode enabled. This means that all paths and
filenames must be ASCII.
- The encryption tool uses similar security to the encrypted DXL that is shipped
with DOORS.
Installation instructions
To install the DXL Encryption Tool:
- Double-click DOORS_DXL_encrypt.exe.
- On the Welcome screen click Install. The
file is installed to the bin
directory of your DOORS installation.
- If both DOORS 8.0 and DOORS 8.1 are installed, it is installed in the
bin directory of the 8.1 installation.
- If you don’t have DOORS 8.0 or 8.1 installed on your machine, then
the installation fails.
Running the Encryption Tool
To encrypt a DXL file:
- The first three bytes of the DXL file that you want to encrypt must
be:
//<
If these characters are missing DOORS will not be able to execute the DXL.
- Open a command prompt.
- Type:
end_user_protdxl.exe "dxl
to be encrypted" > "output encrypted dxl"
Where "dxl to be encrypted"
is the relative path and name of the DXL file you want to encrypt and "output
encrypted dxl" is the relative path and name for the output.
