Poor performances with DOORS URL

Hi all

When I use DOORS URLs into Word Documents, I have to wait about 30 seconds before DOORS focused on the seleted item. That means users don't know if the process is running or not !!!

Some idea about this behaviour ?

Thanks and regards

David,

Removing the 'dxl_server_registry.dat' file (located in '%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp\') may resolve this issue.

Thanks a lot Paul, it works fine now

Do you know what is the purpose of this file ?

Thanks

No, I don't know what the purpose of this file is. DOORS seems to update it when a session is started or terminated.

I'm intrigued - how did you know about this obscure file and that it's removal would help this problem but doesn't cause any other side effect?

Paul,

I learnt about this workaround when I reported the same problem to IBM.

I did not and cannot say if it has any side effects but I have not experienced any.

Perhaps IBM, who are aware of this issue, could shed some light on the purpose of this temp file and say if deleting it could have any side effects.

What I am about to describe is for information only - it is not supported functionality and is subject to change without notice.

That file is a registry of running DOORS TCP endpoints which can be used by the DOORS protocol handler to connect to a running DOORS client. There can be several such endpoints and the registry acts as a local naming service to choose the appropriate endpoint.

In certain circumstances this registry is not cleaned, and the protocol handler spends time checking for endpoints which don't exist. This is what takes the time.

Removing the file addresses the issue. It does not have any adverse effect, other than requiring a new DOORS client when a DOORS URL is followed.

My DOORS Url is not working, I went to module properties and copied the url. I tried pasting that into DOORS Location: & Word doc... When I click I am getting invalid url error. Any help appreciated. Thanks!
