How do I exit DOORS without having to press return?

Thanks

Use the -W commandline switch ... or just don't print any output :-) Regards, Mathias

That's his job here: to make the rest of us look silly. I secretly believe he's some sort of old leftover Telelogic artificial-intelligence ghost-in-the-machine entity.

The -W switch came to DOORS in version 9.0 (or was it already before?). In older versions I have used the (undocumented) exit_ function in script to stop DOORS client.

I dont' think I've ever used exit_ and don't have any trouble with doors closing my batch programs, so long as I don't use any print statements, which leave the black command prompt window open. Are you saying exit_ will exit even if there are print statements?

The -W switch was there at least with 8, probably before, it was just not documented. I had a hard time searching for it, when I accedently stumbled over it on the IBM website. There are quite some more undocumented commandline switches in DOORS.

I write my DXL to be on-demand, such as from a pull-down menu. Those scripts that I also want to run by Batch are tweaked a little bit, notably to set the DBE values to defaults but to not 'realize' the dialog nor 'show' it when in batchMode; instead end gracefully at the end of the file. Any 'ack' or 'confirm' have true or the first option as the normal default. I write a separate batch-parent program which $includes the on-demand script and then issues a call to the main 'apply' function, possibly reseting DBE default values first.

I take all my 'ack' and 'warningBox' etc messages and store them to a log file. The batch parent program can also issue specific batch-log calls; notably including start and end times. The batch parent process dumps the log file and displays it before ending. My deployed DXL doesn't use print statements except in rather odd or extreme situations, so I'm rather glad that I can see them in the morning after the batch runs at night; thus I'm not inclinded to use the -W switch (which I now see in the v9 DOORS User manual).

Yes, I use print statements in batch mode if somebody is interested to see them in console. And exit_ will stop the batch mode DOORS client, compared to halt which will just stop the script and leave DOORS client running.
