There is no way to directly import DOORS vN+1 data into DOORS vN, whatever the DOORS version.

You shall use some external format for the data transfer, and you will always lose some information. (At least, history.)

The actual solution you should use depend on the information you really need to send:

• Some companies send a word file containing main column and requirement identifier only, and any other attribute in some excel file
• Some companies send a single word file, with one specific style per attribute.

• Some companies use import/export based on custom XML format. In this case, you basically send whatever you want. But AFAIK, there is no free solution available, and this kind of tool is difficult (expensive) to develop. There are at least three different tools sold in Europe for this specific purpose.

• Last but not least, their are also some change management solutions that send only change notes in a neutral format for import into the change workflow of the other party. This is of course the more complete solution because it creates some "contractual" history in place of actual history that can't be transmitted.

A module restore from DOORS 8.1 and DOORS 9.1 worked for me! I can't believe it... Just archived in DOORS 8.2 and restored in DOORS 9.1 without a problem ...

Anyone noticed the same?

Argh ... Now I remember - archiving in 8.1 and restoring in 9.1 works but not otherway around. Never mind my "discovery" g ... Mathias

the professional services team of IBM Rational in Germany is able to provide a solution which allows data exchange between different versions (e.g. 8.x to 9.x and vice versa). The solution called "IBM Rational DOORS Data Exchange Add-On" (also known as eXchange) was developped for the German automotive industry where the need for data exchange - especially between OEM and suppliers - is tremendous. The "Data Exchange Add-On" does not only transfer data between different DOORS databases (probably having different versions), it also supports a certain data exchange process making sure that data can only be modified in one of the involved databases.

The main features of the "IBM Rational DOORS Data Exchange Add-On" are:

+ Transfer DOORS modules from OEM to (multiple) supplier(s)
+ View-based
+ Allows transfer of write access on dedicated „supplier attributes“
+ Data transfer between different DOORS versions

+ Return feedback from supplier(s) to OEM
+ Feedback either in „supplier attributes“ or in separate DOORS modules

+ Update DOORS modules in both directions
+ Modifications are highlighted when updating

+ Export existing baseline and recreate it in other database
+ Different versions for different suppliers

Hello,

please give me some information about support hotline for eXchange.

I get the message after the import (update of module) that the Creation of some objects is not possible from a file with partial data.

Unfortunately I don't know the cause for this interruption.

Are there also dpa/dma file compatibility issues between 8.3 and 8.1, i.e. same 8.x version?
