Using DBADMIN tool to throw out idle users

The DBAdmin tool installed with the doors server described at

http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/doorshlp/v9/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.doors.administering.doc%2Ftopics%2Fc_dbadmincommandswitches.html

looks to be a possibility for throwing out idle users, wondered if anyone has used it for such. The documentation gives me some hope. I need some mechanism for throwing out users and reclaiming a licence if the user has been idle for a period of time and doesn't have any edit or shareable module locks. I suppose I could produce a service that runs a dxl that lists all users with write and share locks and use the dbadmin tool to list all users with a connection, take the locking users away from the connected users and ditch the remainder if they have been present but without a lock for a period of time. Is this a bonkers idea , has it been done before?

Cheers,

Richard

Well I used to use DbsAdmin to kick off users when I was mad at my cat but I see the new network disallows it from connecting to the production server (I think the denial of the "ping" capability had something to do with it).  I see it still works on the server.

If "dbSadmin.exe" (windows gui) works then the DOS based "dbadmin.exe" tool should also work. You can create the command line arguments and send it to the sytem with "system".  Open a command prompt, navitage to "C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.3\bin", run "dbadmin.exe /Help" to get started.

There are a couple of threads in the forum about throwing users out (search is a bit better than last week has to be said)

https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/forums/html/topic?id=77777777-0000-0000-0000-000014657701

was the best, but I don't want to chuck out users with modules open for edit and (possibly) unsaved changes no matter how long they have been logged into  DOORS (except in the wee small hours for backup purposes), was hoping I could use the dbadmin tool to distinguish between browsers and editors and lmutil to figure out login time and reclaim licenses. Not sure what the locked files functionality is supposed to do, all I ever get are user locks. Looks llike a dxl element to this tool will be necessary. Don't believe the scare stories about never reclaiming licenses, been restarting the server every night for backups so must have chucked out loads of users with unsaved changes by now, but equally do not want to chuck out people who are actually doing real work, that will not win me any poularity contests!!

Cheers

You will get the gold star if you figure it out elegantly.  Or in fact at all.

I'm not capable, but I wonder if monitoring the connection for activity has any merit.  The "server monitor" must get it's info from somewhere.
