Baseline + Baseline Set (?)

Hello,

I have a baseline set(closed) that include SyRS, SRSs, and SDDs. Now our v&v team a has test specs for this baseline set what is the best way of implemeting the tracing?

V&V would then trace to the baseline modules within this set. But would I then only then create a baseline set that only includes the test specs to preserve the linkage?

One of the gotchas with baseline sets is that you need to decide what modules are going to be inlcuded before you start. You cannot add modules later.

This one always bites when test modules are created late.

Linking to baselined modules seems like a good idea but never really works - it is always better to link to the current version and use baseline sets to preserve the linkage.

If the V&V modules are in their own baseline set then linkage will not be preserved, so you probably need to create a new basline set definition that includes all the new modules as well as the existing ones. This does mean that you may have unnecessary baslines in your SRDs but this is the best way to preserve links.

Hi Tony,

Just a small clarification re your statement "....you need to decide what modules are going to be inlcuded before you start. You cannot add modules later....".

You can modify the definition of a Baseline Set to add and remove modules if desired. Although those changes only take affect when the next baseline is opened. Maybe you are referring to the fact that a retrospective change to the previous baselines that have already been closed for a given Baseline Set is not possible?

Hello,

So would it be good practice to add a few dummy modules to the Baseline definition so if the need araises that you can use these to add the the required info? you could just purge the uneeded ones when you close out the set.

Hi Paul,

Yes, you can change a baseline set definition. BUT not if there is an open baseline set based on it.

So, once you have created the baseline set, you have no way of changing what modules can be included.

You need to close the baseline set, modify the definition and create a new set based on the modified definition.
