What is WEXP?

I have seen references to WEXP in multiple postings in DOORS forums. What is WEXP? Is it something different from the standard Word Export from DOORS? If so, where can I get information about WEXP?

Thanks,
Marjorie

WEXP is a Word exporter for DOORS written in DXL by Jeremy Dick when he was part of Telelogic Professional Services. It had a lot of features like being able to easily go from portrait to landscape, dynamic tables based on DOORS views, etc.

WEXP was not supposed to get out in the field, but it did, and it was free, unlike DocExpress, which Telelogic was trying to sell. When DOORS 9 came out, IBM/Telelogic purposely broke WEXP and started pushing RPE. When people like me complained that WEXP was being taken away with no upgrade/migration path, we were told things like, "WEXP was never supported."

That being said, RPE is a decent, yet hard to use tool that is not free. It gets the job done and works with more than DOORS. But setup of new templates isn't always straightforward and troubleshooting is much harder than WEXP, in my opinion.

Hope this answers your question.

I have to bring to minor correction:
WEXP was never supported as a free product, but was supposed to get out in the field:
In fact, it was on the free download section of the former Telelogic website, with some "free to use/modify at your own risks" license like any other "kitchen" tool.

It was removed around the release of DOORS 6.1 or 7.0 to promote DocExpress, but was still part of some DOORS integration.

And there are still numerous versions of WEXP supported by IBM.
For instance, WEXP is still a component of IRDRMFAO sold by IBM.
(IRDRMFAO stands for IBM Rational DOORS Requirement Management Framework Add-On and was formerly known as TREK)

I've used both WEXP and DocExpress and will avoid both now that I have started using the Rational Publishing Engine. Compared to RPE, WEXP and DocExpress both are of high maintenance, and are very, very slow when it comes to generating documents. For example, I am able to generate 300+ documents that average 80 pages each in around 3 hours. Getting RPE is well worth the cost, and is relatively easy to use.

Hi
I would like to know were can I find WEXP. It's been said that there is an unencrypted version available which works with DOORS v9.xx. Is this true or not?
I appreciate your help.
Thanks

WEXP version is not the same for DOORS V9.0 and DOORS V9.1 and others, because of change of encryption by IBM.
I can send to you, write me a e-mail (you can find my address in my profile)
