Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager 4.0.0
Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager 4.0.0 "New and Noteworthy"
This is a summary of the main new features and improvements in the 4.0.0 release of Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager.
Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager provides an integration between the ALM features of SAP Solution Manager and the Rational CLM Tools. Once an administrator has setup the linked Solution Manager and Rational tool projects, end-users can seamlessly use the best of both the SAP ALM and Rational CLM tools.
For information on new features and changes in other parts of the Collaborative Lifecycle Management solution, see the Jazz Foundation 4.0 "New and Noteworthy", the Rational Team Concert 4.0 "New and Noteworthy", the Rational Quality Manager 4.0 "New and Noteworthy", the Rational Requirements Composer 4.0 "New and Noteworthy".

Direct Integration with Rational Requirements Composer
With the 4.0.0 version of the Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager, administrators can now create an Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager projects directly associated with both a Rational Quality Manager project and a Rational Requirements Composer project or just with a Rational Requirements Composer project.
Given the Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager now supports explicit associations with Rational Requirements Composer projects, when a blueprint is pushed from SAP Solution Manager into the Rational tools additional functionality is available:
- Requirements in Rational Requirements Composer, created by the Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager, reside in a folder structure that mirrors the blueprint hierarchy.
- Similarly, requirement collections OSLC linked to Rational Quality Manager test plans reside in the same folder hierarchy.
- The generated requirements contain hyperlinks back to the blueprint requirements documents specifying the details of the blueprint business requirements.
OSLC link integration between SAP Service Desk Incidents and Rational Team Concert Work Items
During the course of development and deployment of a SAP packaged application, particular problems may span the paired SAP and Rational development tools. With the 4.0.0 version of the Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager, such problems can be initially tracked via an incident in SAP Service Desk or a work item in Rational Team Concert. To notify actors in the other environment, either a work item can be created from the incident context or vice versa. The incident and work items will then be connected with an OSLC link.
This linked data approach is consistent with all the other Rational CLM, OSLC-based integrations. Within Rational Team Concert, an OSLC link to an incident will provide a preview of the Service Desk incident, when hovered over with the mouse.
Clicking on that link will take the user to the browser interface of Service Desk for the associated incident.
Please note that the backpointer from a Service Desk incident to either a Rational Team Concert work item or a ClearQuest record requires the implementation of SAP Note No. 1715803: IBM Rational - Link to ext. defect message missing on Solution Manager 7.1 systems, either SPS04 or SPS05. This note will be included in SPS06.
Support of the SAP Business Process Change Analyzer (BPCA)
SAP BPCA is a facility to determine what areas of a blueprint are affected by things like changes to the customizations for a packaged application or the installation of a service pack to the SAP system itself. With the BPCA integration provided by the version 4.0 of the Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager, users can generate a Rational Quality Manager test plan with an ordered set of test cases that tests the impact of the original change(s). Test plans can be optimized based on a number of criteria, such as whether or not test scripts are manual or automatic, subjective estimates of risks applied to individual test cases, etc. This BPCA integration with the Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager and Rational Quality Manager is the first of a kind integration for test management tools exterior to SAP Solution Manager.
Category Representation of Blueprint Hierarchy for Test Cases and Test Plans within Rational Quality Manager
The version 4.0 of the Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager now creates nested categories that mirror the blueprint structure for the blueprint pushed through the Rational Connector for SAP Solution Manager to create Rational Quality Manager test plans and test cases:
The new nested category feature allows users to quickly find test cases or test plans, based on the blueprint structure.
