Install Prerequisites

Refer to the Rational Requirements Composer System Requirements before installing to make certain that your system meets or exceeds the minimum required configuration.

One of the following products are required to run Rational Requirements Composer Server:

  • DB2 9.5.1 Workgroup Server Edition
  • DB2 9.5.1 Enterprise Server Edition
  • DB2 9.1.2

Select and download the appropriate version for Windows or for Linux. For complete step-by-step instructions for installing DB2 9.5.1 Workgroup Server Edition, refer to the Installation Roadmap in the information center.

Review the release notes before installing to understand any known issues.

Download and Install

Follow the steps in the Installation Roadmap for detailed instructions on how to download and install a trial version of Rational Requirements Composer OR for quick instructions, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the Rational Requirements Composer Client zip file, Server zip Disk 1 and Disk 2 from the All Downloads tab.
  2. Extract the contents of the downloaded zip files to temporary directories.
  3. Execute launchpad.exe (on Windows) to start and install Installation Manager V1.2.
  4. For complete step-by-step instructions for installing Rational Requirements Composer client and server, refer to the topic Installation Roadmap in the information center.
    NOTE: To upgrade directly to v1.0.0.1 while installing Rational Requirements Composer for the first time using the zips downloaded in Step 1, click Check for Other Versions or Extensions on the Install page of the Installing Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager during the install of both the client and server packages.

Configure Rational Requirements Composer

In order for Requirements Composer server to work properly after installation, it must be configured. For complete step-by-step instructions for configuring Rational Requirements Composer server, refer to the Installation Roadmap in the information center.

Optional: Download Rational RequisitePro v7.1, Rational Software Modeler v7.5.2

You can create requirements in either Rational RequisitePro or Rational Requirements Composer and then add the requirements from one tool to another. Rational RequisitePro provides requirements management capabilities including traceability, views, and queries. These capabilities are complemented by the variety of requirements definition techniques in Rational Requirements Composer. In addition, use cases and process flow requirements captured in IBM Rational Requirements Composer can be used as a basis for your solution analysis and design activities within Rational Software Modeler.
