1
Read the important documents

Read the release notes to find out about known issues with this milestone build.

We are still in the process of finalizing the requirements for this release. Consult the working list of system requirements to find out about supported platforms and memory requirements.

2
Plan and prepare

To get started quickly with a small deployment using the default topology and Derby databases, skip to the next step and Install the server. Derby deployments are limited to 10 users and do not permit cross-domain reports.

For advanced deployments, first read the Interactive Installation Guide to plan your deployment. Then visit the Optional Programs page to obtain programs such as DB2, WebSphere Application Server and Rational Reporting for Development Intelligence.

3
Install the server

To perform a web install of the server as well as trial licenses for Rational Quality Manager and Rational Team Concert, download a Web Installer for your platform, unzip the zip file and run the appropriate executable. The server includes Apache Derby for supporting up to 10 users. To enable more than 10 users, install DB2 or another supported database program.

Note: Rational Team Concert, Rational Quality Manager and Rational DOORS Requirements Professional share a common install that deploys the Jazz Team Server and the Change and Configuration Management, Quality Management and Requirements Management applications. The licenses that are installed in the Jazz Team Server provide access to the capabilities provided by the applications. The install for Rational Quality Manager will install and activate licenses for that product. Licenses for Rational Team Concert will be installed but will not be activated. You can activate these after setting up the server, by visiting the License Key Management page of the Jazz Team Server Administration. You do not need the Rational DOORS Requirements Professional keys to test the Requirements Management capability as read-write access to that capability is also provided by the Rational Quality Manager Quality Professional license. This means you can install any of the three 3.0 RC0 (Beta 2) products to try the full set of collaborative lifecycle management capabilities. In the future, the Requirements Management application will include the Requirements Definition capability with access to that capability being provided by the Rational DOORS Requirements Professional Analyst license. To learn more about applications, capabilities and product license keys, read the Building products from applications blog post.

If you need to install the server in an environment without access to the Internet, visit the All Downloads page and download and unzip the files for the the Jazz Team Server and CCM, QM and RM applications repository and the trial product licenses repository, and install using Installation Manager.

Note: During the installation process you have the option to install different applications. It is possible to only install a subset of the applications. These options are for advanced install scenarios such as distributing the applications across multiple servers or deploying multiple applications of the same type within an application group. These scenarios are not yet fully documented and should only be used if you understand the implications.

4
Setup the server

After installation follow the Jazz Team Server setup wizard at http://myserver/jts/setup (where http://myserver is the URL for your server) to perform the setup for the Jazz Team Server and the installed applications. For guidance, read the documentation or watch this video. For the most up-to-date setup instructions including annotations of workarounds and issues, consult the setup instructions on the wiki.

5
Install optional tools

To try out Rational Team Concert, install the Client for Eclipse IDE or the Client for Microsoft Visual Studio IDE for developers, the build system toolkit for running Jazz-based builds and synchronizers for integrating with ClearCase and ClearQuest. Additionally, the Client for Eclipse IDE is required for certain Rational Quality Manager administrative tasks such as updating reports. Visit the Rational Team Concert page to download these tools.
