Upgrading to Rational Build Forge 7.1.2

Upgrading from Rational Build Forge 7.1.2 milestones

Upgrading from the IBM® Rational® Build Forge® 7.1.2 milestones to this release is not supported.

Upgrading from Rational Build Forge 7.1

To upgrade:

  1. If you have been using Tomcat, remove its work directory by completing these steps:
    1. Stop Build Forge.
    2. Delete this directory:
      • Windows
        <bf_installation_dir>\Apache\tomcat\work
      • UNIX or Linux
        <bf_installation_dir>/Platform/Apache/tomcat/work
  2. Perform an update install.
  3. Re-index your database (in particular, the bf_logs table) for better performance by running bfschema -R.
For IBM DB2® database, re-indexing takes about 40 seconds per GB. For Microsoft SQL Server, the operation takes about one second per GB. For Oracle and MySQL, re-indexing can take significantly more time and might require a maintenance window.

Given the variability in the operation's duration, the upgrade process does not perform the bfschema -R operation even when you select the option Do you want the installer to make the required database modifications?.

Upgrading from Rational Build Forge 7.0.2.x

To upgrade a version 7.0.2.x system to 7.1.2:

  1. If you have been using Tomcat, remove its work directory by completing these steps:
    1. Stop Build Forge.
    2. Delete this directory:
      • Windows
        <bf_installation_dir>\Apache\tomcat\work
      • UNIX or Linux
        <bf_installation_dir>/Platform/Apache/tomcat/work
  2. Upgrade from version 7.0.2.x to version 7.1.1.3.

Download the version 7.1.1.3 packages from the IBM support site, and then follow the instructions in the IBM Rational Build Forge version 7.1.1.3 Installation Guide. Because of database schema changes, upgrading from version 7.0.2.x to version 7.1.1.3 requires that you migrate configuration data (projects) and, optionally, historical data (logs from jobs).

  3. Update version 7.1.1.3 to version 7.1.2.
  4. Re-index your database (in particular, the bf_logs table) for better performance by running bfschema -R.
For DB2 database, re-indexing takes about 40 seconds per GB.
