Download and install

Before installing the product, check the requirements for the software that you want to use:

Upgrading or installing the console

To upgrade or install the console, choose the scenario that fits your situation:

Note: The file labeled Linux for System z on the All Downloads tab cannot be used with IBM Installation Manager. Also, it is only for full installations. You cannot use it for upgrading an existing installation.

Upgrading Rational Build Forge

  1. Download the Rational Build Forge compressed files from the All Downloads tab.
    You can use the file labeled Rational Build Forge Console -- Full Installation/Upgrade. However, if you are running Rational Build Forge 7.1.1 (versions 7.1.1.0 through 7.1.1.3), you can instead download platform-specific packages that are specifically for upgrading. These files have the label Rational Build Forge Console -- Upgrade only.
  2. Install IBM Installation Manager if you do not already have it installed. Visit the Installation Manager downloads page to get Installation Manager.
  3. Extract the downloaded files.
  4. Start Installation Manager.
    1. Click File > Preferences and enter the repository URL. Specify the directory where you extracted the console files as the repository.
    2. On the start page of Installation Manager, click Update and follow the instructions in the "Upgrade overview" section in the Rational Build Forge Installation Guide.
      Note: The version 7.1.1.4 Installation Guide section "Upgrading a version 7.0.x console to version 7.1.1" is not valid for this release. You cannot upgrade directly from version 7.0.x to version 7.1.1.4. See the Upgrading tab.
  5. Optional: To install Build Catalyst, follow the installation instructions in the "Build Catalyst" section in the Rational Build Forge Online Help.

Performing a new installation of Rational Build Forge

  1. Download the file labeled Rational Build Forge Console -- Full Installation/Upgrade from the All Downloads tab.
  2. Complete all preinstallation setup, including setting up a database for Rational Build Forge, as documented in the Rational Build Forge Installation Guide under Pre-Installation Setup.
  3. Install IBM Installation Manager if you do not already have it installed. Visit the Installation Manager downloads page to get Installation Manager.
  4. Extract the downloaded files.
  5. Start Installation Manager.
    1. Click File > Preferences and enter the repository URL. Specify the directory where you extracted the console files as the repository.
    2. On the start page of Installation Manager, click Install and follow the instructions in the Rational Build Forge Installation Guide. See the "Installation Steps in Installation Manager" topic in the "Installing the Management Console" section.
  6. Optional: To install Build Catalyst, follow the installation instructions in the "Build Catalyst" section in the Rational Build Forge Online Help.

Installing or upgrading Rational Build Forge with Rational Automation Framework for WebSphere

  1. Download the Rational Build Forge compressed files from the All Downloads tab.
    You must use the following two files:
    • Rational Build Forge Console -- Full Installation/Upgrade
    • Rational Automation Framework for WebSphere feature
  2. Complete all preinstallation setup, including setting up a database for Rational Build Forge, as documented in the Rational Build Forge Installation Guide under Pre-Installation Setup.
  3. Install IBM Installation Manager if you do not already have it installed. Visit the Installation Manager downloads page to get Installation Manager.
  4. Extract the downloaded files.
  5. To enable installation or upgrading of Rational Automation Framework for WebSphere, use the information provided in the Installation and upgrading topic in the Rational Automation Framework for WebSphere Information Center.
    Important: Read and follow all installation prerequisites and instructions. If you do not set the RAFW_ENABLED environment variable as described in the instructions, Installation Manager does not install Rational Automation Framework for WebSphere.
  6. Start Installation Manager.
    1. Click File > Preferences and enter the repository URL. Specify the directory where you extracted the files as the repository.
    2. On the start page of Installation Manager, choose to install or upgrade.
      • To install, click Install and follow the instructions in the Rational Build Forge Installation Guide. See the "Installation Steps in Installation Manager" topic in the "Installing the Management Console" section.
      • To upgrade, click Update and follow the instructions in the "Upgrade overview" section in the Rational Build Forge Installation Guide.
        Note: The version 7.1.1.4 Installation Guide section "Upgrading a version 7.0.x console to version 7.1.1" is not valid for this release. You cannot upgrade directly from version 7.0.x to version 7.1.1.4. See the Upgrading tab.
  7. Optional: To install Build Catalyst, follow the installation instructions in the "Build Catalyst" section in the Rational Build Forge Online Help.

Upgrading or installing the agent

To upgrade or install the agent:

  1. Download the Rational Build Forge Agents file from the All Downloads tab. This file includes agent files for all operating systems.
  2. Use the downloaded files and follow the instructions in the Rational Build Forge Installation Guide, under the "Installing agents" heading.
