Other Notes

Client Access Licenses (CALs)

The early access 'Foundation User' client access license key included with the Jazz Foundation 3.0 - Jazz Team Server will expire on May 3, 2011. Jazz Foundation is provided as early access technology and, as such, users and consumers are expected to move aggressively to the most recent milestones and releases in order to take advantage of the latest fixes and enhancements and to ensure that feedback is timely. If the expiration date above has passed, this should indicate that there is a newer milestone or service release available containing a CAL with an updated expiration. If you encounter this situation, please visit the Jazz Foundation downloads page and check the list of milestones and releases to identify a more appropriate download.

Default Heap Memory Settings

In the 3.0 RC0 Jazz Team Server deliverables, the default heap max settings for the 32-bit and 64-bit tomcat server.startup scripts (located under the 'JazzInstallDir/server' directory) were updated to reflect new recommended values. The new default values are '-Xmx1200m' and '-Xmx4000M' for 32-bit and 64-bit platforms respectively.

If you are running under WebSphere it is recommended that you update the settings in the WebSphere Administrative Console at Server>Application Servers>server1>Java and Process Management>Process Definition>Java Virtual Machine>Maximum Heap Size to the new defaults (or higher values for larger 64-bit deployments).

Selecting 'Disable default ADMIN access' during setup disables access to Tomcat Manager

Tomcat Manager access requires the 'manager' role. Before running setup, the ADMIN user has the 'manager' role. If "Disable default ADMIN access" is checked during setup, ADMIN is stripped of all roles, including 'manager', and the admin user created during setup is not given the 'manager' role.

If using the Tomcat User Database, access can be restored by manually adding the role to the desired admin user in /server/tomcat/conf/tomcat-users.xml and restarting the server.

  <user username="jtsadmin" password="xxxxxx" fullName="jtsadmin" roles="JazzAdmins,manager"/>

Installing on Linux, AIX, and z/OS

If you are installing the Jazz Team Server on one of thse platforms, please review the infocenter topic Special Server Instructions for additional considerations and setup that may be required to ensure proper execution of your Jazz Team Server.

In particular, please review your system limit for open file descriptors. On some platforms, the default value is 1024 which is well below the recommended value of 12000 and can lead to errors at install or runtime.

Create Tables Button does not Enable in Setup Wizard when changing Schema on DB2i

There is an issue with creating database tables using the setup wizard in the web UI on iSeries/DB2i. The problem arises when you attempt to use a database schema other than the one that was automatically created at installation. The symptom is that the create tables button does not enable when changing the database schema name.

To workaround the problem, you will need to do the following:

  1. Stop the server
  2. Edit the file and comment out the property specifying the schema
  3. Restart the server
At this point, you should be able to use the setup wizard to set the schema name and create the tables. This issue is tracked in 139094: web-based createTables fails for db2i on iSeries when choosing schema other than default

Note on installing the Solaris Server and Application SDK (Web Install)

If you are installing on a Solaris machine that already has the IBM installation manager installed and the version of IM installed is greater than, then you will not be able to use the launchpad in the Solaris download. Instead, do the following:

  1. Start the IM already installed on the Solaris machine
  2. use the File > Preferences... dialog to add the following repository URL:
  3. save the preference change and click the Install button and select the "IBM Rational Jazz Foundation 3.0" for installation

CRJAZ1558E when Testing the JazzAdmin User during Setup

During setup, when testing the LDAP configuration, user may encounter an issue where they receive an error CRJAZ1558E even though they have verified that the LDAP properties are valid.

See the technote for additional details on the cause and resolution.

Jazz Foundation - Jazz Team Server Upgrade Limitation (does not apply to RTC)

If you are upgrading from a prior early access release of Jazz Foundation (Note: This limitation is not applicable to users upgrading a Rational Team Concert - Jazz Team Server) you should be able to upgrade most resources stored in the Jazz Team Server database using the repotools 'addTables' command. However, all process related resources will be lost as part of this process. You will need to need to recreate or migrate these resources manually after upgrading.
