I created an external link in DOORS to a document in a folder on a shared server. I can open this document successfully from DOORS by using the external link. However, when I go into Web Access I can see the external link there, but when I attempt to follow it and open the document it fails. I get the following message:
For security purposes, the browser locks links to local files.
To view this link open the file: \\fserob1\projects\RDAS\Design Activities\Requirements Definition\Analyzed Files\Svoboda\wpcselect.for.docx.
✓OK
I then click on the OK button, but nothing happens. Does anybody have any ideas on why this happens and what I need to be doing?
Thanks

This is to do with the IT setup. Following URLs has been disabled by the IT folk. There is not a lot you can do about this.
The message you are seeing is telling you that you have to manually go find it using windows explorer. Clicking the OK button merely dismisses the dialog.

The DWA code runs on the DWA server, perhaps the same as the DOORS server. I'm pretty sure that following links is performed on that server, not on your client, and if so then the server may have restricted outgoing rights for following links. And if that's so IT will be unlikely to remove such security restrictions, but you could ask.

DOORS and Web Access are on the same server, and I can follow all external links from my DOORS client on my desktop. I can follow external links with a "URL" from Web Access, but I can not follow external links to a file address when I am in Web Access. The difference is in whether it has a URL or is just a file address of a document in a folder on either my desktop or a remote shared drive. So apparently this is some security restriction issue? If I file my project documents in a folder on the same server where DOORS and Web Access reside will this help?

If I am right then if the file is perhaps "c:\MyFolder\MyFile.txt"; that path does not exist on the server since it has its own "c:" drive. If the file is some network path then its possible the DOORS server doesn't allow that sort of external access. And, if so, it probably won't allow your client to use Windows Explorer to access the Server file system.
Guess we need to find out for sure whether such paths are resolved on the client or the server.
