Hey All. We have a file with specific Word styles we are importing.
How do we get DOORS to preserve the indents on import?
Right now it just left-justifies everything.
Sample enclosed.
Thanks!

Re: Import RTF file into DOORS - formatting OurGuest - Thu Jul 12 16:06:57 EDT 2012
If you are using import rtf function, there isn't a solution other than adding spaces and tabs in front of your list. (Unless you add attribute 'Paragraph Style' and deal with all the nuances)
If you use export from ms word -- there is a 'Paragraph Style' that will assist the user. However this approach isn't a perfect solution and requires the Paragraph Styles be maintained and use of a template that matches the Paragraph Styles for ms-word export. In the template you provided, the bullets would be removed and then would be added back in during export to word but wouldn't provided you any bullets within the DOORS module.
All in all, IBM didn't provided a very useful approach to making user friendly interface.

I don't understand what you mean by "'Paragraph Style' that will assist the user".
How/where would you apply it?

I was able to export your rtf doc from Word to DOORS, and the indentation was maintained.
DOORS will maintain the rtf indent formatting, but it will be hard to maintain (add new objects) in DOORS.
I did not export from DOORS back to Word, but I assume the rtf would be maintained back out to the Word doc.
Paragraph Style allows you to Export a Word doc to DOORS that has user defined Word styles other than Word's standard Heading 1, Heading 2, Normal, etc... You may define Indent 1, Indent 2, or other styles in Word, and when you export to DOORS, those Word Paragraph Styles are captured. You would see them in DOORS by displaying a new column, and Paragraph Style would appear in the attribute drop-down list box in the Content section of the New column - DOORS dialog box. You could see the DOORS syntax for these styles in this column.
Exporting from DOORS to a Word template that has those styles defined would maintain your structure, even if the DOORS doc does not have the rtf embedded in it.

I should add that the Paragraph Style in DOORS is like an HTML tag that directs Word how to display the text. It is Word that make the final decision as to how the text will be displayed based on the style definition in Word.

I take it from your response that you haven't bother looking for the Paragraph Syles in either the help system or within a
module with content exported from word.
I would suggest you be more proactive in solving your own problems.
If you insist on importing rtf you can do styles mapping,
help file says:
Importing RTF files Before you can
import an RTF file, you need to map the styles used in the RTF file to appropriate Rational DOORS features. The tool attempts to map the RTF heading styles to Rational DOORS features
for you. You can save a style mapping
for future use.
If you want to export from MS Word to DOORS, help system says:
Editing imported Word style information If you capture paragraph style information when you
import data from Microsoft Word, the style information is stored in the Paragraph Style attribute. The Paragraph Style attribute contains one or more <attribute: style> pairs. Each <attribute:style> pair defines the style that is applied to an attribute
's value when you export the data back to Word. You can change the style information if,
for example, you want to export the module to a Word file that uses a template with special styles. You can edit the Paragraph Style attribute value in-place, but it is more efficient to use the Edit Paragraph Style Attribute tool. The Paragraph Style attribute can store as many <attribute: style> pairs as you want. The value of the Paragraph Style attribute is object specific, but it can contain style information
for more than one attribute. This means that you could,
for example, specify one style
for the Object Heading attribute, and a different style
for the Object Text attribute. If you then exported the object, Word would apply different styles to the data in each attribute. The tool can manipulate the styles either
for the current object or
for every object in the current view. Two settings have special significance: The Attributes setting The Properties setting The Attributes setting lets you specify a
default style which applies to every attribute which is not listed in the Paragraph Style attribute. The Properties setting lets you specify styles
for data in your view which are not attribute values, such as layout DXL and object identifiers. You use the Attributes setting and the Properties setting in the same way as any other attributes. They have <attribute:style> pairs like any other values in the Paragraph Style attribute. To run the Edit Paragraph Style Attribute tool: Open the module whose Paragraph Style attribute you want to edit. Click Tools > Support Tools > Edit Paragraph Style Attribute. In the Attribute box, select the attribute that you want to specify a style for. In the Paragraph style box, type the name of the Word style that you want to use
for the selected attribute. Note To delete the paragraph style information
for the selected attribute, clear (delete all the text in) the Paragraph Style box. If you want to change the Paragraph Style attribute of the current object only, click Apply to Current. If you want to change the Paragraph Style attribute of all objects in the current view, click Apply to All.

I did no such thing. You're original post was vague and poorly written.
