Hi All,
A couple of our users got the following error from the Change Proposal System:
A failure occurred while attempting to find section "00000000000034e2" in module "..../Change Proposal System/Proposals 2"
Manually creating the sections in the "Proposals 2" module has resolved the problem.
Has anyone else seen this issue?
I'm not sure if the "Proposals 2" module got corrupted or there was a failure in the new user configuration for CPS. I checked the module for deletions and found none.
Thanks

When you "configure" a project for CPS and add a user; that user gets its own section in all the Proposal modules. The section looks like that, where "034e2" is the user's Unique ID.
So if you got a user config error then the above error is not surprising; no doubt the error occured before this module was condigured. Yes, creating that section is a good idea, but you MUST change the access to that object to not inherited.
You should probably check all the modules in the folder, specifically including the "Users" module, and add that section to any module that has similar sections (the Groups module does not, Users module does; I don't recall which other ones do).

Louie,
I have checked the modules in the Change Proposal Folder. The sections that were added by hand do not have inherited permissions. The permissions were Everyone RMCDA and an additional group also with RMCDA. I would not think this additional permission record would cause any issues.
I did notice some other differences that caused me concern.
Proposal 2 - two of the users are in a different order
Proposal 8 - has two less users
Proposal 9 - has eight missing users
Should all the Proposal modules have the same sections in the same order as the User module?
Thanks

It appears that someone is trying to modify the cp module without using the CP tools provided by IBM. While it is possible to circumvent the tools, very few users have enought experience to correctly modify the CP system without using the tools provided.

OurGuest is right, stop messing around in the CP system. More importantly, stop OTHER folks from doing so. Use the CPS configure tool.
-
Yes, the "Users" and all the "Proposal" modules should have identical sections. The "Groups" module does not.
-
The order won't matter.
-
the access must be "Specific", since CPS will open the Proposal module "Shared" and lock the relevant section. If that user's object is inherited, there is no section to lock.
-
Configuring will add sections, but when the corresponding user is configured out; the sections remain as-is.
I would Configure users with the tool making sure you got everybody figured out.
If a module has 8 missing sections it suggests to me someone is doing some really serious changes, like trying to "import" a source and a proposal module from some other project.

Having chewed you out, I would advise renaming the "Proposal" modules to something meaningful like "CPs for XYZ".

Thank you all for the sound advice....I'm just the poor guy trying to patch this thing back together ;)

what about removing then re-adding the module cps.
This would create a new proposal module with all currently configured users.
(COMPLETE review of all submitted proposals before you do this otherwise you'll loose them)

Yes - this can happen when adding users to your CP system - if DOORS cannot get exclusive access to all the CP modules within your CP system then it will add users to those that it can and throw an error for those that it cannot. If DOORS throws an error when attempting to add a user to your CP system then it means that it was unable to create a user entry in one or more of your CP modules and (1) some of your CP modules have less users than others and (2) those missing users will see the "A failure occurred while attempting to find section ..." error.
To prevent this happening make sure that DOORS can get exclusive access into all the CP modules when a CP user is added.
Sounds as though manually creating the sections fixed the issue - have you noticed any side effects?

I am confident that adding a section with the correct "00000123df" name is adequate, but make sure it is a shared section.
The only way a CP Admin would have "A" rights to CP module but lack it to another is if someone manually played around with the rights. I'm pretty sure you can "fix" all issues by re-configuring the CP system's Users: Add a user/remove that user, then Configure.
I would like to point out that the "Administrator" lacks ability to configure the CP system. That sounds obsurd at first, but then it's reasonable since the CP system relies on accessing "Users", and even DB-Admin cannot access the "Administrators" user account.
