We have recently been attempting to update our DOORS clients from older WinXP 32 bit DOORS v9.1.0.3 & DOORS v9.3.0.5 Win7 64 bit installed users. However Comma, ... we are experiencing a 50% success rate on the Win7 64 bit DOORS v9.6.0.1 installations. 3 work as expected, no issues what-so-ever. 1) had all kinds of trouble allowing the install. 2) would allow the install to happen but DOORS would not run and gets shut-down almost immediately. 3) install happened normally, user could run it for a single session, then his PC required reboot for IT pushed out the latest Windows PC Security patching, DOORS reverted to nearly same behavior as 2) described above. ALL of the other 3 continue to perform flawlessly even after accepting the same Windows Security patches.. Why does it have to almost always go this way with weirdness prevailing?.... luckily- we only willingly accept the client updates about every 5 years now-a-days.... gsdguy....

Re: Some DOORS 9.6.0.1 64 bit Win7 installs work and some don't? It's funny (not really) that you're posting this now as we are having the same problem this week (not during the install but trying to use the client) - on some systems the client starts and works fine on others it refuses to start. We have not figured out why it is happening on some machines and not on others as they all should have the same Windows setup (standard stream). If you get a resolution please post here... and vice versa. |

I think I am going to submit this to IBM Rational DOORS Support as a PMR...
I will definitely post results here if we find what is causing the DOORS v9.6.0.1 clients on our Win7 64 bit PC to not be able to run. gsdguy... |

I got a tip from the Support Person to take a look at the Windows Event Log. 1.) try to run the DOORS v9.6.0.1 64 bit Win7 Enterprise PC: Doors tries and quits quickly with error popup (see attachment 1) 2.) checking Windows Event Viewer finds Error: Exception Code 0xc0000409 (googled = windows system files damaged)(see attachment 2) Presently waiting to hear back from DOORS Support on the PMR, but leaning towards PC Win7 re-image per online results of what a 0xc0000409 error means about the condition of the particular PC.... we suspect that these particular PC's have an older Win7 image than those that seem to work ok. Sometimes it is easier to just wipe a PC Windows OS after some time rather than to spend lots of time looking for needles in haystacks... Hope this helps others who are involved in this sort of grunt work... gsdguy Attachments event log error 9601 wont run on win7 pc.jpg DOORS 9601 64 bit wont run on Win7 64 bit PC.jpg |
Re: Some DOORS 9.6.0.1 64 bit Win7 installs work and some don't? Hi gsdguy/BillTidy-
Were you able to get a resolution on this issue? I am currently seeing the same behavior with a Doors 9.6.1.6 install.

Mike B Hi BillTidy- I have not seen the issue repeat since we have been deploying DOORS v9.6.1.6 64 bit Win7 clients. However... I have seen (2) new things happen that so far have not kept the client from working. 1.) during the installation a info message appears that is asking to accept\choose some sort of storage or something or other [ I still need to capture and document this one ]. 2.) recently in the last 8 weeks of using DOORS v9.6.1.6 client on my own system, doing everyday work, I have gotten 2 DOORS Crashes with the huge doors.exe exception error and such] which seems to occur if I have a module open and doing typical editing of objects and attributes and values or access settings in a module... and then go and perform a Tools->Manage Users -> reset a user password or even if create a new user account and then at the end of that... the DOORS client CRASHES.. But since I am a 10 year DOORS user... I have adopted the policy of SAVE Often while working on any module or PAY the price of re-doing work again... :) ... gsdguy... is it really the middle of June already... geesh... |
