I would convert this files in .doc format but the tools that convert in .doc from .pdf don't preserve the document structure and the figures have problems. Re: Import PDF Files in Doors Adriano,
How about use a OLE link as work around? You may refer this link document for details. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21324462

Re: Import PDF Files in Doors Hi Adriano, I had a similar problem than you. At the beginning i had to make a screenshot of all my tables and pictures, because as you said, to conver a .doc from .pdf don“t preserve the structure and picture. - After convert the .pdf to .doc, change the tables and pictures for screenshots. - After that, it is necessary to create a special macro that recognize the beginning of the requirement and the end. - Finally export to doors.
I spent a lot of time but it works.
Thanks and good luck |
Re: Import PDF Files in Doors Adriano Unfortunately, there is no tool available anywhere that converts pdf to a text-based format without any loss or corruption of data or formatting. It's just the nature of the beast. You are already doing the right thing by doing your best to convert to *.doc before exporting to DOORS. I might add that the suggestion to take screenshots of the tables or images that don't convert is a good suggestion, too. There are other considerations. Here are some that come to mind: Save off the Cover Page, Table of Contents and other document artifacts that are meaningless in DOORS. I would only be interested in the part of the document where the actual requirements begin - or at the first section, typically Section 1 Introduction (or Scope). That's the meat-and-potatoes that you want to manage in DOORS. After doing your best to convert to a *.doc format, use the Word search tool to locate "shall". For every sentence that contains "shall", I would use the "Enter" or carriage return key to start a new line. This will export that "shall" statement as a single object to DOORS. Otherwise, you may have a whole paragraph with multiple "shall" statements export to a single object in DOORS. (This can be fixed in DOORS by using the "Split Objects" tool, if needed). Review your document before exporting to DOORS. DOORs will not fix problems with a document. For instance, if you have a large font, boldface "5.1.1 Requirements", but in Word it isn't a "Heading" Style, then it will just import as plain text. You have to make sure your headings are actually "Heading" Style for DOORS to recognize them as such. I only mention this because a lot of tools that convert from pdf to a text-based format will overlook "Style". Good Luck!!

Re: Import PDF Files in Doors Hi, Adriano. As for myself, I have seldom tried to convert in .doc from .pdf. I wonder have you ever worked it out? Do I need another 3rd party manual toolkit? When it comes PDF conversion process, I have another question, I wonder have you ever tried to convert pdf to other image files before? As for myself, I am testing the related PDF to PNG converting , PDF to BMP converting , and PDF to JPG converting programs these days. Do you have experience about it? Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
