FLEXnet License Finder error

Hi all,

We have installed DOORS 9.2, but when trying to open the applicaiton, a error msg is displayed saying that the application couldn't obtain a license. I have attached the error msg.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Angela

Oops, forgot the attachment.

When an error message like this pops up it usually means that the DOORS client either does not know where to find a license file, or it cannot find a valid license key for the DOORS version 9.2 client in the current license file.

I'm assuming that your DOORS setup is using a FlexLM license server rather than individual license files installed on each PC that has a DOORS client on it.

Start the DOORS client again, when this error prompt is displayed, select the option "Specify the License Server System", click the "Next" button and then follow the prompts - you will need to know the TCP address of your FlexLM license server, it will look something like this: 19353@ServerName. Your IT people should know what this TCP address is. Once completed, this info is stored in the Registry.

If this doesn't work, then the problem could be with the license key information that resides inside of a license file that the FlexLM license server uses. Either the license key for the DOORS client doesn't exist, or it's not compatible with DOORS version 9.2. I can't say for sure but I do seem to remember that you needed new license keys when moving from DOORS version 7.x to 8.x, and from 8.x to 9.x. In fact I even think they changed the license key between DOORS 9.1 and 9.2. Even so, unless your IT people know how to interpret the FlexLM license data in the text based license file, they will need to seek IBM assistance to have a look at your current license file and advise you on what you need to do.

PAul is correct. You do need a new license to upgrade to 9.x

I'm trying to download the Trial version of the DOORs software and I've received the same error as above.  However, because its a trial version, I don't have an IT person to call on to provide the TCP address of your FlexLM license server.

Is there anything else that I can do to get the proper information for this error?  I want to do this trial version to determine if I want to recommend the software to my company, Booz Allen Hamilton.

You do not need a FlexLM license server for trying out DOORS. However you do need a trial license which is generated for your computer. Contact your IBM Sales representative to get such a trial license. When you have this license stored on your filesystem and DOORS asks you where the license is located, direct it to this license file.

If you are not asked where your license is, it might be that you have an old entry in your registry concerning the location of the licenses. Open the registry editor and delete the key HKLM (or HKCU)/SOFTWARE/ (Wow632Node?) /FLEXlm License Manager/TELELOGIC_LICENSE_FILE

Regards,
Mike

Edit: or update the existing key by adding the location of your file.

The entry on my PC looks like this:

d:\Licenses\MSCNBOOK-RATL-20150218.dat;27000@MSCNBOOK

Hi Mike,

Yes, it does ask for the location of the FLexNet file or server system.  I've tried contacting an IBM representative to assist me with the license but I'm still waiting.

Hi, did any IBM rep respond to you? If not, can you provide your email address here and I can make sure someone contacts you?

Thanks,
Kourosh
