Same DOORS database with different license server.

Greetings,

I connect to a DOORS database and license server that is not located at my site. I already have a Flexlm server running and would like to add DOORS floating licenses to my local Flexlm server but still connect to that Remote DOORS database. Is this possible? Do I need to install anyting on my local Flexlm server?

Thanks for the help!

It's only the DOORS client that checks-out a license, so your local FlexLM license will be OK for any DOORS DB that you can connect to.

I do not have a local flexlm server running on my machine and do not have admin rights. Is there a way to change license servers by changing my DOORS executable shortcut?

I currently change my shortcut so that I can go to different databases. Is there another load option for license?

Not with the Shortcut, but you can define your own licensing by using the 'license setup' program that should be somewhere in your Start>>Programs>>IBM Rational folder.

But that's too easy, try this harder method:Right click on My Computer>Properties>Advanced Tab>>Environment Variables. In the lower window (for all users) try to modify variable TELELOGIC_LICENSE_FILE, inserting a new location before the existing one with a semi-colon. Since that will likely fail due to Evil IT folks restricting access, you an insert a New one in the upper window, but that will apply only to you. Variable name is TELELOGIC_LICENSE_FILE and value is the new path. Concatenated path may look like this:

7192@MyFirstDoorsServer;7192@MySecondDoorsServer;19353@222.1.445.134

Notice there are NO SPACES around the semi-colons. If it finds a suitable license in <7192@MyFirstDoorsServer> it won't poll the others.

If you have a large company and can find such license servers, you could line them up like this to make sure you are never shut out from licensing; even if the real owner would prefer that you didn't use their licensing. Not that I would ever ever ever ever do something like that myself.

Or you could edit the Registry looking for TELELOGIC_LICENSE_FILE, but you should never never never never play with the Registry; that's as silly as trusting 'your friend' Zamahiel from Shangrila who wants to use your checking account to smuggle $1mil out of the country and let you keep 10%, he 'trusts you'.
