Concept: Defect

A defect is a problem with the product that produces an incorrect or unexpected result, or causes the system to behave in unintended ways.  Typical defects are:

  • Defects at the build level
  • Defects at the User acceptance testing (UAT) level
  • Defects at the release level

The following are the states for this work item type:

  • New – The defect is created; its disposition has not been determined.
  • In Development – The defect is actively being worked on. This includes fixing the defect and developer testing.
  • In Test – The defect is being independently verified.
  • Resolved – The defect is closed. The resolution specifies its disposition.
  • Reopened - The defect was previously resolved, but needs additional work.
